FAT Chick on my Shoulder says "EAT This NOW"

does this happen to you- you are all set to be totally on plan food wise for the day and THEN the FAT Chick who rides around on your shoulder starts WHISPERING in your ear "Man, a cinnamon roll sure would taste good about now" I, of course, ignore my FAT Chick's comments when she first starts talking to me and I listen to the HEALTHY Chick (notice i didn't write the THIN chick, this is about being HEALTHY!) who says is a clear voice, NO, you don't need/want/desire cinnamon roll, your (insert on plan food item) is delicious and is everything you want and need right now....so then the FAT chick speaks up in a little bit louder voice in my ear " EAT THIS CRAP NOW" so i'm walking around with all this noise in my head eat this, no eat this.....it's ridiculous...
at times I'm able to completely ignore FAT chick, but i admit sometimes her's is the voice i choose, not the winning voice because i'm losing at my 60 yr old gal can run a marathon Plan if i let Fat chick win.

Today was a good example of why FAT chick has a chance to start talking to me. i ate a meal plan bar at 7:30 and went off to Lowes and Home Depot for gardening supplies (got some more veggie seeds, hooray!) and then a stop at Sprouts to stock up on salad fixings. by the time i got to sprouts it was 10 a.m. and i was hungry. so her influence wasn't too bad: i got a wheat french bread loaf and tore off a chunk to eat on the way home.
as i did that a light bulb went off in my head: i MUST get back to my old FAT chick battle plan, carry water, some sort of snack and fruit with me when i go to run errands. that way if they take longer i have HEALTHY Chick foods in my purse.

Ready Set Go

well, it's my first official week on my long term plan to run a marathon when i'm 60. I'm composing this on my laptop perched on a makeshift shelf on my schwinn recumbent bike in the garage.
i felt such a sense of relief on Monday when i knuckled down to losing weight that i was prepared in alot of ways as i had my past history of 60 pound loss to recall what worked then.

in a "perfect world", i would have gotten my house all de-hoarded, stocked up with on plan foods, ( in a "perfect world" i wouldn't have to lose 80-90 lbs thought would I?!!!!!!)okay for ease of typing from now on let's say I want to lose 100 lbs. i'm not sure what my final goal weight will be, i think my body will tell me when i get there.

i figured it was better to start MOVING (vs spending way too much time watching tv or surfing the internet which unlike the ocean surfing uses up ZIP calories)

thankfully I had on hand some great workout clothes and shoes.
WARNING: GET A DOCTOR'S CHECKUP IF YOU ARE GOING TO START AN EXERCISE PLAN, i think that recommendation is for 40+ yrs old, but if you have any health conditions, check with your doctor.
this is my story and i hope you might join in safely if you'd like to....

so here is what i had to help me get READY:

it's a real challenge to find workout clothes if you have 100+ lbs to lose. I hope to locate some internet sites that carry these items.

ASICS workout shoes, for heavy folks, stablizing shoes are recommended. http://www.zappos.com/ is a great online shoe site but if you are buying your first workout shoes, i suggest a brick and mortar sporting goods or running store. often times running shoes run smaller than your regular shoes

C9 by champion, workout wear that keeps you dri, forget cotten work out clothes, they are so irritating. i seriously don't know how the Biggest Loser participants tolerate cotton! http://www.target.com/  sizes up to women's xxl.  pick up some dri socks as well....

Underarmour dri sports bar, sense a theme here?!!!! i love underarmour workout clothes, unfortunately i don't think they manufactor clothes in women's sizes.

Halo sweat band, this has a strip that keeps the sweat out of your eyes.. http://www.haloheadband.com/

when i run outside i like pants or shorts w/ pockets for gels http://www.raceready.com/ they have a wonderful bottle gripper so you can slip your hand inside around your water bottle.

there are also belts to carry water bottles.

if i'm running or walking i like to wear an Id tag w/ info in case an accident would befall me. http://www.roadid.com/

if you are working up a sweat over time your workout clothes just get funky, regular laundry detergent can't cut it. i love WIN, sports laundry detergent

BIG THANKS  to my What I Did Right Today gal friends: Gayle, Kathy, Jenn, Denise, Jenga, Mickie for all the support and clueing me in to these great products back in 2007!

so with these items I was ready to get started on my workouts. My plan this week is to MOVE, not watch TV as much. I started my mornings with planting veggies in my garden. Later i will get lots of organic food to fuel my healthy life style.

speaking of food, i needed to get READY with that as well. for the time being i'm using HMR shakes and entrees to which i add veggies and fruit. I used them before successfully.
http://www.hackleyhealthmanagement.com/

i add spinach and other greens to the shakes, some mint leaves, cinnamon and ginger are great also.
where would i be with out my Champ blender?!!!

my son and husband also like the entrees, they need no refrigeration and cook in 1 minute, or eat them cold. great for traveling by car, or checked baggage.
i need to stock up on frozen veggies, some that go well are green beans, mixed veggies.

my grocery run will include cherry tomatoes, zucchini, yellow squash, cucumbers, mixed lettuce greens, bell pepper, broccoli, cauliflower. so many great summer veggies and fruits.

thankfully i have plums, peaches, tangerines, oranges, blackberries ready or getting ready in my yard.

so that covers my READY

what is SET? i guess climbing on the recumbent bike and starting to pedal?!!!

or GO.

i'm slowly pedaling for an hour as i do this blog, but i know i need to do some workouts with out using the laptop. this would be great to use in the evening, vs laying on the bed typing or watching tv...

the scale is already moving downward this week. my offical weigh in day is Monday but i'm pleased with what i'm seeing mid-week.

i've lost 7.5 lbs since June 1st. (wow, how many calories was i normally consuming before to maintain my weight?)

if you have any workout gear you've found helpful drop me a comment.....

Hard to believe I will be 60 in 2013

man, where do the years go?!!!! in 2007, i trained myself to run half marathons after losing 60 lbs. i was still overweight but i was able to run 2 half marathons: Traverse City, MI and Albuquerque, New Mexico. (hey picking races in distant states is a great excuse for travel....) then bam i let life interfere and i regained  all the pounds and stopped running or lifting weights.
this weekend i gave a great deal of thought to the fact i will be 60 in 2013. this is not the shape i want to be in. i miss being strong and able to do lots of lifting and gardening tasks.
i don't feel 'old' at 57, so i'm starting back w/ a workout plan to lose 80-90 lbs so i will be lighter than when i ran in 2007...
the rest of 2011, i will concentrate on dropping weight, due to some almost broken left heel issues, i daren't run at this weight but there are so many other things i can do such as: walking, riding my recumbent bike, weight training.
i rented a street strider that was just returned from the Biggest Loser Ranch but i got ill on my San Diego trip so i wasn't able to practice on it.  i think it looks like a wonderful machine to exercise on, check it out.
http://www.streetstrider.com/ Kevin from LA street strider was so helpful, he dropped a machine off at my house, saving me driving to Venice. although i did think a visit there would give me a great opportunity to walk the venice canals... http://www.travelinlocal.com/a-guide-to-walking-the-venice-canals-in-los-angeles/
i'm a bit of a klutz and have never skied or used an elliptical machine, so i think i have a higher than normal learning curve on it. sure many folks pick this up pretty quickly
having been a couch potato and spending too much time doing my favorite hobbies of genealogy and casual jewelry making, it might have been more realistic to do several weeks of exercise before renting the Street Strider, my goal is to be injury free so i must think smart and not attempt TOO MUCH at one time

in 2012 i will get a bone density test and hopefully be able to start building up a running base. i miss running around the beautiful Palos Verdes area. it's a good idea to have a one year's running base of 25-30 miles a wk before starting to train for a half marathon or full marathon. i was able to do the other 2 races with out a full year's base but hey i'm older now..
anyone else shocked when they look in the mirror and see age on their face?!!! i mean come on, inside i still feel like i did in my twenties!!

i hope to inspire others to reach for some lofty goals in the next several years. please follow me along on my QUEST and share your goals with me.
